Health Care Provider
Initially, IT system implementation for the Client was carried out internally, by their own staff. However, as the company began to grow, with new offices being opened, and requirements for inter-office data links emerging, significant limitations of the existing arrangements were showing up.
The Client management decided to call in SES Computers to assess their IT systems and to formulate policy to achieve the required objectives. This resulted in:
- At Head Office and Satellite Offices, the IT Systems were re-configured to provide the required level of functionality for all users. This included a means for Head Office to call up each of the Satellite Offices in order to download file data.
- A basic, standardized configuration was established for the systems to be installed as new Satellite Offices were opened. Each system includes a server, workstations, printer/fax, data links and telephones to suit the number of The Client staff involved. SES Computers has responsibility for the supply, installation and set-up of the hardware and software at each site, and the provision of the required cabling infrastructure. Inter-office links are established via ADSL/SDSL and the Internet.
As the Client has continued to expand, a comprehensive support service has been established, with SES staff operating a Help Desk to provide The Client staff with advice about using systems and software. Problems may be analysed remotely, and solutions implemented with or without intervention of the staff involved. Most problems are resolved remotely, or by The Client staff following verbal instruction from SES support technicians. However, if necessary, SES staff will attend on-site to implement a cure, generally on the same day as notification of a problem.
SES Computers has recently been awarded a long-term contract by The Client to provide for all of their IT and Telephony needs. A partnership arrangement has been established between the two companies, whereby senior staff discuss the future IT objectives of The Client, and the means to achieve them. SES now has full responsibility for ensuring that reliable IT and Telephone Systems, with the required levels of performance and functionality, are available 24/7 to support The Client’s continuing operational and expansion strategy.
As a result of the existing server becoming overloaded, an additional File Server has just been installed. This new File Server, which uses the latest Intel Xeon quad-core processors, and 16 Gb RAM, which runs Virtual Servers. These Virtual Servers operate on the one host machine, but handle different functions, so that the applications effectively operate independently of one another.
The old File Server is now employed as an iSCSI storage solution, thus enabling data. The use of virtualisation technology increases hardware utilization, aids disaster recovery, and enables organizations to rapidly configure and deploy new services. The opportunity was also taken to upgrade the anti-spam and anti-spy-ware facilities.
